What is Holistic Health?
You may be wondering what “holistic” or “integrative” nutrition means. Simply put, it means the integration of nutrition with mental, physical, and social aspects of your life to form the whole picture of your health.
The word holistic comes from the Greek word holos which translates to “whole” or “all”. Holistic and integrative wellness focuses on the health of the entire person – body and mind. It emphasizes disease prevention, and strives to get to the root cause of a health issue rather than treating and masking symptoms.
In other words, it is not just about the food you eat! The foods you choose to nourish your body are critical – and I believe at the foundation of good health – but there is so much more to consider! You can eat all the kale in the world, but if you’re not moving your body and taking care of your mental state, it will be tough to achieve optimum wellness.
